Sinpozium is a Sydney slash gathering that's been held four times before (2000-2002, 2005), has been on extended hiatus, and is making a comeback in 2011. It is a fan-run, not-for-profit weekend-long party.
We are currently planning Sinpozium 2011 - please fill out this poll to help us estimate possible attendance numbers.
For more information or if you have any questions, checkout the Sinpozium livejournal community, dreamwidth community or discussion list (or subscribe via email), or contact the organisers directly, Erilyn or Alasen.
The proposed date for the next Sinpozium is Saturday 11th to Sunday 12th June 2011 (Queen's Birthday long weekend for all states except WA). Stay for the whole weekend, or come and go as convenient.
YWCA 'Y on the Park' Hotel
Wentworth Ave, Sydney.
(Google Maps).
This is the same venue as Sinpozium 2002 and 2005. The function rooms are comfortable, air-conditioned, and wheelchair-accessible. The entire hotel is non-smoking. Reasonably priced accommodation is available at the hotel if needed/wanted, see below.
This is to be determined, and is dependant on the number of people who are interested and the function room required.. We will keep it as inexpensive as possible. For comparison, registration fee in 2005 was $40 for the weekend.
Sinpozium started as a giant slash slumber party, and what happens at it is up to those who attend. Everyone should be able to participate as much as they want, whether that's giving a talk, pimping a fandom, leading a discussion, taking part in games, sharing vids or just hanging out and having a good time. Activities will include discussions, fandom pimping, games, vid watching and more.
If you wish to bring along fandom-related items to sell/trade, no additional registration fee applies, though space may be limited.

The YWCA is located close to the corner of Liverpool St and Wentworth Ave, across the road from Hyde Park.
It is less than 5 minutes walk from Museum station (on the City Circle line), and about 15 minutes from Town Hall station. Many buses would pass close by it, see the Sydney Buses or Sydney Transport Infoline websites for more information.
There are several parking stations around the city that are within walking distance if you want to drive, hourly/daily rates will vary.
Contact the hotel for for details of the airport shuttle, or take the train from the airport to Museum station (it's on the same line).
If you need more details about any transport options, or have questions about which may be the easiest for you to use, please ask.
Sinpozium is not catered, however, there are a variety of shops, cafes, takeaway places, supermarkets and restaurants in the area. The YWCA's cafe is medium-priced, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are many places to eat along Oxford St or back towards the CBD. More information available at Sinpozium.
The YWCA has a guest kitchen on one level, but basically it just has fridge, toaster and microwave. Many rooms have small fridges.
Food isn't allowed in the function room apart from what is catered by the Y. But as long as people are discreet about bringing it in, and take rubbish away with them, snacks and drinks have been fine in the past, but we'll ask people not to eat meals in the function room.
Hopefully we'll see you there!
